Default Not \"supposed to\" post this here, but I\'m going to anyway.

Lamon Brewster knocks out Andrew Golota in the first round. Everyone in the crowd was booing Brewster. When Brewster was asked how he overcame the boo's, he replied (this is not word for word, it's something to the effect of), "God was on my side. With God on your side you can overcome any obstacle." This touched my heart.

"God" is always on one's side when one is winning. And if not, then it was "God's" will to lose. Either way, great rationalization.
Golota had it coming for a long time.

Yes, because God cares about who wins boxing matches. God also chooses which team will win high-school football games, NBA matches, and I'm pretty sure I won my last game of rock paper scissors because God wanted me to.

It's fine that athletes and other public figures have religion, but for the love of god (and I'm not just being ironic) please stop telling us that God wanted you to win a boxing match (or whatever).

By all means credit him with giving you your talents, but leave it at that.

For the record, I played on a rugby team that would pray before every game (we had a lot of religious Pacific Islander on the team, and their culture is to pray as often as possible. NOT ONCE did they ask God to make us win. Instead they asked for things that God would actually care about - that we'd all make the best use of our talents, nobody would get hurt, stuff like that).

I'll say it again. Any God worth believing in doesn't care who wins a sporting event (except for the annual Heaven vs Hell rugby game - God's easily got the best team but guess who has the umpires?)

Now replace "love" with "fists of steel".

God = Love = Fists of steel.
