I think you made a good fold on the turn. You mentioned that your opponent was a thinking player. You don't have enough of a stack to re-raise anything that he won't call. If you are ahead here, then your opponent has some outs. If you are behind then you are in trouble.

Your hand is pretty clear at turn and why would he overbet with trips? I call and expect to be good 70%+ time.
