Default Checking in the dark: Showing strength or weakness?

There are many players who frequently check in the dark when they will be first to act after the flop. In general, is this a sign of strength or weakness? Or is it really just a random thing to throw off opponents?

Agreed- I've never seen a darkcheck mean anything in a live game. Usually, after someone checks in the dark, someone at the table will glare at them as if to say "and you accomplished what by doing that?"
