Default My adventures in No-Limit

Playing 1/2 donk-limit last night with your standard assortment of 'tards and monkeys while waiting for a seat to open in my normal game. The second guessing and pokerspeak is excruciating. "I should have bet $100. You'd fold for $100." "You guys keep raising to $15 with your big cards. If I catch with my small cards I'll bust ya."

Some guy to me, "You know, you can play a hand."
Me, "I know." <fold>

Anyway, 6 or so hands in, the dealer is shuffling and I'm UTG. I think, what would I do with Aces here? The last 6 hands have been raised to at least 8 times the BB by one of the 4 players to my right, all raising limpers. Every hand has gotten to the flop. I think it's a good spot to limp/reraise. Cards are pitched. I squeeze red AA. I limp. The whole table limps behind me. Damn. Flop is 8 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 7 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. Check, check, I check, check, check, bet pot, raise pot, folds to me and I fold.

Good times.

That's tough. I have quite a NL story that went the other way for me. Not a brag post but just a look at what TV has done to lots of casino poker games...

I played 5-10 at the Taj and made around 250 during the day and decided to go check out showboats new poker room. No 5-10 or even 3-6 going, just 2-4 LHE and 1-2 NLHE. I figure what the hell theres no list for the NL game I'll just hang out there for a while so I buy in for 300 bucks.

After about two orbits I'm flat out laughing as some guy was raising pots up to 40 or 50 bucks preflop. Finally after winning about 200 bucks off other players I picked up AA. He raised it to 50 dollars. I minreraised him and and he called. On the flop I picked up a set of aces on a rainbow, non straight draw board, he bets 50 and I smooth call. (He had about 250 left). On the turn he bets 50 more and I raise 75 on a still completely unthreatening board. He makes a comment about being "pot committed" and calls. On the river he checks I push. He calls and turns over A6 and hands over the rest of his chips. It was actually a good score for me sitting in that NL game and it really made me think about what a joke televised poker tourneys have turned low stakes NL into. I also realized it can be a feeding frenzy, even if you just sit and nut hoard for a while.

Good luck,
Matt

**completely off-topic

I'm looking at some edits in my thesis that I'm finishing up, and it totally looks like one of my readers wrote the letters "sfer" to be inserted into one of my sentences.

Or it could be "ster" but that doesn't make any sense either.

weird.

hm... some of my posts may make it seem like I have a man-crush on you. Don't worry, I don't... I had my eyes on CMI, but then he quit 2+2

I dunno, he just got fed up with SS, and wandered off to OOT and SMP for a while. Then he came back to SS for like a day, I called him out, and he said he'd probably be back in the Fall, but nope, nothing.

He showed up in the #sstakes IRC once, tried to post a couple pictures of his room, didn't work, and then he left.

And now he's not posting anywhere.

I don't think he made another name, but I don't know for sure.
