BTW, clever title.

Also, I assume we all agree that stars does by far a better job of taking care of its customers than any of the other major sites.

[/ QUOTE ]

Absolutely. I know all the other sites have better bonuses and stuff, but I love playing on Stars. (i hope you weren't being sarcastic)

It's funny how we all complain, but we'll never go away.

[/ QUOTE ]

No, we won't because we're making easy money. We exploit people to earn money, and poker sites take a cut for providing the medium.

The only really annoying thing about the whole rake situation is that the biggest fish ignore the rake--thus the biggest fish are at party and not stars because party's better known. If fish started to pay attention to rake, this'd be a more competitive market and rake would at least have a chance to drop. At this point, I don't know why PP doesn't just charge 10%.

This is similar to the double-zeroed roulette wheel idiocy.

and percentage-wise it isn't even close to how much live tourneys (especially the WSOP) charge for the house as well as the mandatory dealer-tip of 2-3%.

By comparison...the piddly, little percentage that Stars takes out is a freaking bargain (incredibly enough).

if anyone's interested, i study digital enterprise management at the university of toronto

for a major assignment, we developed a business plan for a poker site...

after 5 years, we showed a net present value of over $50million

this was based on the assumption of obtaining VERY modest market share

I believe in our research, we showed partypoker taking over $1million a day in ring game rake alone
this is income of course, not revenue

You guys should see what it is like overseas.

The casino in Barcelona was raking up to 30 dollars a pot. And some guys were saying it was one of the lower rakes in Europe

Pokerstars makes most of its profit from Ring games.
Players are the same: Most poker pros make most of their money at ring games.

Online casinos rake much less than live casinos.
Hope it is one of the reasons why more people play online.

Now if someone open a new online poker site that charges a smaller rake, say 1% rake. Will it attract more players?
If it will, what type of players will go there?

we wrestled with the issue of undercutting bigger site's rakes- but we reaosned that many people were unaware of the rake, and would not move sites to save a few cent a hand (i realize the longterm savigns it provides, but it just wasnt a selling point)
