Default Flopped a set

A couple days back i was on the bubble with the third biggest stack or so and was involved in a hand with the current chipleader. So the question is, after flopping bottom set what should i do? I got greedy and decided to slow play it which let him catch an overset to bust me out.
Did i just get unlucky or should i avoid slowplaying in that situation?

Ok, i was on the big blind and had pocket eights my opponets was on the small blind and preflop min raised so i called. The flop was A k 8 all rainbow and he opend up with a min bet i re raised the minimum amount hoping to trap him for more money. The turn was a jack, he checked to me, the jack scared me becuase of the drawing possobilitys so i bet the size of the pot. He re raises a bunch and i re raise all in. He turns over jacks and i get knocked out.
