Math could easily lead you astray too.
Youre in a sb vs BB battle with 78s. flop comes 2K7. Youre betting here, since the probability that he got the king is only 15%. But either he got it or he dont got it.

I would submit that reads are part mathematical as well, because you use mathematical assumptions and computations in conjunction with other input to develop a complete read decision.
