Default AK- Re-raise all-in or call?

I would like to know how do you play AK?

Of course, low stack or against a low-stack an all-in is good, but what do you do early in a tournament or when you have a big stack against a big stack?

Here's what happened last night:

Hero has 3600 chips (after less than 30 minutes) and vilain has 3800. Blinds : 15/30

Vilain raises to 500, Button call, I am small blind and pushed. Vilain insta called and Button folded.

My AK lost to his 10-10.

Was my play good or should I have called and looked at the flop and move accordingly? I couldn't re-raise without going all-in...

Don't do either. You should be folding. AK is not the nuts preflop and against a raise that is nearly 20x the bb it's okay to fold.

FOLD FOLD FOLD. Nearly everytime.

Fold. Dont need to be calling down 20X bb raises with AKo. You can let it go here.

I think I should have called.

I would never fold, becasue there's one caller. I will hit 1/3 of the time on the flop. When I hit I might get more money from a AQ or AJ, if I don't hit I loose 500 of my 3600 stack which is not too much...

Let's say I was sure the raiser didn't have AA or KK (would have been played toooooo aggresive, and the caller should have re-raised all-in for his 1500 more, so I thought nobody had AA or KK) so at worst (and most likely), with one caller, I was 50-50 (with a 500 chips bonus), sometimes, ahead of AQ (I don't count on this very often but for the times it happens - it was a low-buy-in)...

Correct me if my thinking is wrong...

You're risking too much of your stack and the blinds are still low. It's just AK.

So, yeah. You're wrong.

Would you only re-raise with KK and AA?

What about JJ and QQ?

10s and lower would be for set value so a fold...

You need a hand that's worth pushing here. A high pocket pair. AA-QQ IMO.

With those stacks I fold. Villain's raise is absurd and means he probably isn't folding to your reraise.
