I think it's usually fine for the reasons you stated. In this instance, I would be a little careful as he cold-called an UTG raise and could have a pretty decent hand. I usually don't bet too big either in case they do have a hand and play back or just call.

He choose the weaker of the two options. There is usually a good reason for that. |
