Default When and why should you raise to > 3xBB preflop online?

Standard online tourney. No one is short stacked. It's folded to you. Is there a situation where it is advantageous for you to raise greater than 3 times the big blind? Please provide examples.

When you are in the cut off with a huge hand and want someone in the blinds to think you are stealing. Hopefully they put you all in and you double up.

if u have <10bbs, u should just push

no need to put 30% of ur stack in the pot just to fold later in the hand

Well he said no one is short stacked. So I took that as everyone has a nice hefty stack.

Most common example of this would be a situation where you have a quality hand with a bunch of limpers in front of you. Ex.- Youre on the button with JJ. 4 limpers to you. Your hand is best played against 1 other hand. Raising to just 3x the BB will give better pot odds to the limpers. Many will raise to 5 or 6x the bb here.

Sure I think there are many such situations.

1, You have a strong han but want to iscourage action. E.g. fole to you in CO+1, you have 88.

2, You have a monster an your opponents seem willing to call large bets preflop with weak hans. E.g. you have AA in the CO an the players in the blins are very loose & have large stacks.

3, You want to steal the pot an have notice that your opponents call with a much narrower range against a 4 or 5xbb raise than against a 3xbb raise.

4, You have picke up a monster an have been playing very agressively an taking own a lot of pots without a showown.

This question is too broad, but an obvious one is if your opponents react differently to different size raises. If they fold to 4x but not 3x and you are stealing, for example. Usually there is a thin window of usefulness here, but it does exist, especially as the blinds get larger; different size raises can help you narrow or widen your opponents calling range. Generally the reason to vary bet sizes on any street is to encourage or discourage action from various hands your opponent may be holding. If you have observant opponents you also have to vary the reasons why you choose different bet sizes to avoid being predictable.
