Amsterdam casinos
Hey I'm going to Amsterdam in a few months with the family and I'm wondering what the deal is with poker in their casinos. I understand the European casinos are more formal with dress requirements, but is it possible to find a hold 'em game there?

Re: Amsterdam casinos
Holland Casino in Amsterdam offers poker. The dress code is not a problem, dress neatly and you will be fine.
However, you will need to pay a nominal admission fee (a couple of euros) and they will want to see identification. Bring your passport with you. There are multiple "Holland Casino" locations in the Netherlands, but only the Amsterdam location (near the Leidseplein) offers poker. This is the Amsterdam Holland casino poker page. In a nutshell, it says: Poker is dealt every day from 10PM until 3AM, and Sundays they start at 4:15 in the afternoon. Minimum buy in for limit is €200, and pot limit minimum buy-in is €500. On Tuesdays and Thursdays there are €60 entry fee tournaments with €50 rebuys for the first hour. The page does not list tournament start times or payout structure. The page does not indicate blinds for pot limit. It suggests talking to the floor of the poker pit for more info. I could not find an English version of this page, but their Master Classics of Poker tournament page is in English. When I was there, on a Friday night, there was only one table of €10/20 being dealt. They allow Dutch, German, and English to be spoken at the table. |

[/ QUOTE ] yeah, it was a headshaker. you do get the admission fee back in a drink token, but paying to drink at a casino sucks, too on the other hand, you can walk a few blocks and get marijuana and sex-for-hire legally. not the worst trade ever |

Re: Amsterdam casinos
The dress code is definitely not an issue there, though I did feel real out of place when I straggled in there after visiting a fine "coffee shop" with 4 days of facial hair, giggling with my friends like a schoolgirl.
I wasn't in there that long however as I lost my blackjack buyin pretty quick, went to the ATM and took out some more money (francs at the time), then was still not right in the head and decided i needed to put everything i withdrew on black on the roulette wheel and then had to go back to the ATM. Needless to say, I would not be in the right frame of mind to be playing poker there, especially with people chatting in 3 different languages all around me. |
