Breaking even means you must win the $4 5-times for ever 4-times you lose the $5. That means winning 5 times out of 9 which is about 55%.
Lets check. 55% times you win $4 - 45% times you lose $5. That's 55*4-45*5 = 220-225 = -5 over 100 attempts; pretty close to break even. - Louie Actually is 55.56%. |

You can object, but your equation does not account for the size of your bet which is the key here. If your bet is $10 you need to win these blinds way more often than if your bet is only $5. If you are winning these blinds only 56% of the time (or 55.55556% if your going to argue accuracy, plus or minus half a percent with regards to a poker game is not worth correcting) with a $10 bet you are actually loosing money, where as a $5 bet with the same win rate breaks even. You need to win about 71% of the time with a $10 bet to break even.
