JJ fold on the Bubble...did i play this right??

The villan was semi-tight and with 2 short stacks...I didnt know if I should have called this hand...I put him on A10-Ak type of a hand.

My first qestion regarding a hand. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

My opinion is "yes, fold." Too many possible hands make it a coin flip and you have no need to take that gamble.

We'll see if there are dissenters.

I would like to disagree.

I don't have a problem with our Hero folding here - but I don't think it's the only option.

I think if the villian is semi tight - his open raises as a big stack on the bubble like this should be a bit wider than what was mentioned - and could include pocket pairs down to 88, as well as hands like KQs,KQo, even KJs.

Now - like I said, I have no arguement with choosing to fold here - but this is also a case of being willing to take a 4th, for a good chance at finishing 1st.

The big stack only has you be 1000 (roughly). So if you call, and win (and I think your ahead more often than not) you now have over 5500 chips, with 3 players on the buble all at 1,000 or lower.

This should lead you to a great deal of 1st and 2nds - compared to folding here will stick get you some 4ths, some 3rds, some 2nds and probably a few 1sts.

I think if you are playing for 1st, and willing to take a risk like this on the bubble - you can call, but it can go either way.

I was thinking the same thing. The only reason I chose to fold here was the fact that I am a much better post flop player then most that I've run into at the 20+2 sngs. Although I only have a small sample (110 tourneys at the 11 and 22 combined), my highest finish is at #1 with 18.5%. Before I started playing the SNG's exclusively, I played a lot of live cash games at most of the big card rooms here in Southern California for quite a bit now. What this forum has enabled me to do so far is to see where I have leaks and also to see how my Tourney play has been flawed. Because of my extensive live game experience, I had a tendency to overvalue hands like AQ, mid PP, and other marginal hands. Also, I've learned alot about bubble play and where I still need to make improvements. Before I came to 2+2, I would have insta called with my JJ's but now, I've learned to look at the situation in a different way, which has helped my SNG game tremendously. I hope this hand helps someone else evaluate their play and think about how they would have played it and hope it will lead them to be better players.

BTW...Even though I made the money...I ended up 3rd due to a couple of tough hands that I lost. Not much you can do when you get out drawn I guess.
