The Bellagio-Mirage-Wynn Middle Limit War Begins
I visited Wynn today and will post my comments about the room in one of the review threads.
My main interest with the opening of Wynn and the Bellagio's renovations is how the middle limit (10-20 to 40-80) games will be spread among the three rooms. If today is any indication, the Mirage will be only marginally impacted while Wynn and the Bellagio fight the big battles. For the last few years, the Bellagio and Mirage rarely spread the same limits in hold 'em games. The Bellagio had 15-30 and 30-60. The Mirage had 10-20, 20-40, and 40-80. On early Thursday evening, Wynn was mostly spreading games which would take action away from the Bellagio. Wynn had one 30-60, two 15-30's, and one 40-80. Bellagio had four 30-60's and two 15-30's. Mirage had three 10-20's, one 20-40, and one 40-80. If Wynn continues going for the 15-30 and 30-60 games, it's going to be interesting to see who wins between Wynn and Bellagio. Or, if they just end up splitting the market. Considering the size of Wynn's poker room, they can't expect to draw middle limit games away from both the Bellagio and Mirage. With less than 30 tables in the room and lots of 4-8 and small blind no-limit games, there isn't room to take all the games from both the Bellagio and Mirage (if that's even a reasonable expectation to start with). Wynn's computerized waiting lists and vastly better comps (according to what I read in another thread) should give them a good foundation for providing better service to the middle limit crowd. It'll be interesting to see how this develops. |

Re: The Bellagio-Mirage-Wynn Middle Limit War Begins
Hi, not sure why the rooms have to care honestly, since the rake isn't going UP with the limits?
Once you hit a certain level ALMOST all pots are instantly capped RAKE, aren't they? This is why the higher games aren't everywhere, limited audience... filling tables consistently is more important then having a bunch of high stake bitchy magoos around? >TW< |

One reason they want the higher action because some players and their signficiant others go play the carnival games as well.

Yeah that is a factor, BUT:
Then why aren't the bigger games spread more places? (I know I know, 'we'll make an interest list' BS!) All the casinos offer TONS of expensive SUCKER games, often disguised as .01 slots. >TW< |

Re: The Bellagio-Mirage-Wynn Middle Limit War Begins
At the Borgata in Atlantic City, they will try and start a higher limit game with a waiting list that they know has little chance of going, even though they have a 6/12 or 10/20 list with 30 people on it eager to play. They want to keep the higher limit players happy so they don't go to another casino. In Vegas with more casinos, they have more incentive to do this, IMO.

Hotel & Casino. If you are going to play a specific limit, especially in the 40/80+ range you are going to want to stay where you will be playing.
Fills rooms, generally not just standard rooms, and keeps you eating, spending, and gambling in their casino. It's not so much about the rake profit as it is getting every possible dollar. The better the middle limit games you can spread the more money all around is going to be spent under your roof. Just my $.02 -Ryan |

Bellagio and Mirage are both owned by the same company, MGM Mirage.
