I figure it should remain a total rock fest.
The grand prize is a trip to the big dance.
Everyone in it doesn't want to lose and is going to play pretty tight.
at least that's how i assume it will be

It's an interesting structure.

I'm not entirely convinced it's that terrifying though.

I might plunk down a couple of step 1 or step 2 buy-in's on this.

I wonder what happens to all the clutter lying around in people's accounts after the wsop has taken place.

This is a very interesting point. I hope they have some plan for all the leftovers.

I usually buyin at the $200 level and have several of the Step 1's sitting in my account now. I would even give them away if that was an option. I just really don't want to play the really small ones.

That structure is terrifying.

I suspect you could live inside those tournaments for several weeks without ever popping out of either end.

The structure is great for good players and party.

With it being flat...i think it removes some of the luck.

While totally complicated and somewhat odd, I think this is a brilliant idea. I have been wondering why there weren't non stop qualification type tournaments into the WSOP. I think they could have done it much more simply though.

I think that's the appeal. For people who play recreationally, this has the potential to get you a lot of play for your $11 buyin. And the play is fun because you can dream that if you try hard you'll win the WSOP (as opposed to just spending that $11 on a $10+1 sng or putting it towards a buyin for a ring game where the potential upside is small).

Default they should allow u too accrue step 1\'s for a step 2 freeroll.

5 step 1's u should be able to turn into a step 2 freeroll.

Those step ones are just a waste of time for higher limit pplayers especially when u consider u have to win whole thing to move forward.

agreed.
I'm on my 3rd Step 1 now (from initial $11 buy-in). Just getting re-acquainted with the blind-structure and also getting a general idea for how tight/loose the opposition is.

I will have no major objections if I only lose or 'only' take back the $7 cash and then just buying-in directly to step 2 or 3.
But the step 1 is kind of fun for how ridiculous it is and to get used to it.
