Default Spotlight 29 Casino

Anybody been here? Played cash games and/or tournaments there? I'm going to the desert for Thanksgiving, staying in La Quinta. Spotlight 29 is way closer to La Quinta than Morongo, and the poker room at Morongo is tiny tiny. Any experiences would be appreciated.

You think Morongo is tiny?

Compared to Morongo, Spotlight's room is a walk-in closet. It really isn't a very big room. HE and Omaha, and stud on demand.

Compared to nearby Fantasy Springs, at least Spotlight's facility is in its own separate area (far corner of the casino). Fantasy Springs had a poker "area" set across from the other table games. I haven't been there in a while so I don't know if they're still spreading poker.

Let us know what you think of Spotlight. I was there when it was "Trump 29." I think the current casino management / Indian tribe got rid of the Trump name months ago.

I also played at Trump 29 last fall, breaking up an overnight drive from Phoenix to Los Angeles.

I don't remember a whole lot about it, but it was a pleasant room with two games going overnight ($3/6 LHE and something higher). About 12 tables total IIRC.

I didn't go to Morongo but my understanding is certainly that it's much bigger.

Only other Indian casinos I've been to in SoCal are Pechanga and San Manuel, both of which have much more poker.

There's an 11AM tournament at Spotlight 29 on Friday, I'm definitely going to hit that. I will report upon return. Thanks for the info.

When you mentioned Morongo as "small", perhaps you were thinking of the original location of the poker room at the new casino. It has since been moved to a larger, glassed-off room. Aside from the lighting, which is lousy, it's not a bad place. It's still the biggest room in the area.

I, too, will be down in the desert for the T-Day weekend, but not to play. My wife and I are in the process of selling our condo there, and we're moving stuff out of it during that holiday "window." Hope you do well at Spotlight.

If your in PS, try Agua Caliente, they have(had last time I was there) a nice room, not many tables but it was nice. For the record, Morongo has at least as many tables as San Manuel had before their remodel, and at least as many as Pechanga had before they moved upstairs, I havent seen either newer room, but Morongo would not be a bad choice, its just not that close to PS, you will be in the car for a bit.

This is biased, but I really like Spotlight 29. Compared to how crazy I know Morongo would be, Spotlight was a breath of fresh air. Got there at 10:15 and had no problem at all signing up for the 11:00AM MTT. $30 buy in for $5,000 in chips, two rebuys you can take any time plus an add-on at the end of the first hour for $10 each. I took 2nd out of 60 or so players, made $600.

The room has 8 tables. There were zero ring games going on when they started the tournament, but they started a $3/$6 table while it was going on. They added a 2PM tournament because there were more players, which is the kind of thing I rarely see rooms do even when it makes sense.

Cons: chips were not marked with denominations, and the dealers were a very mixed bag. In situations with three or four all-in's, there were several times the dealer needed the players' help to figure out who got what. There was also a situation where they moved me from the BB to the button on another table, which caused quite a ruckus (which they did not correct).

The casino itself was very clean, etc, and the class of people was in general high. Drinks were relatively cheap: after I cashed I got a double Patron Anejo at the bar, which cost me $18. They about filled up a water glass with tequila for that. Same drink cost me $27 at La Quinta, for two very carefully measured shots.

All in all, I heartily recommend Spotlight 29.

I agree with TobDog. Aqua Caliente is, IMO, THE best in the area. I've played in all of them. Great games. The 20/40 Kill is awesome. The management and dealers are good and friendly. The room was just redone to add more tables. It's very nice. It's close to La Quinta. I would not bother with the others unless you are curious and just want to check them out.
