Default Is This Normal?!!

If it is normal, it probably gets covered twice a week. In which case I apologize.

I made my first trip to a B&M last night. I played for 2 1/2 hrs. It was a 9 player table and on 4 occasions only 5 people saw the flop. It was typically 6-7 people. I saw 11 flops and 7 of those were in big blind, so it was really 6-7 people seeing the flop at what was usually an 8 handed table.

The big winner was the guy on my right, he saw EVERY flop the entire time I was there. I raise UTG with QQ and four people cold call + the big blind makes it six to the flop, UTG + 1 wins the hand with A's full of 5's after cold calling with A5o. As near as I could tell, he was the 2nd tightest player at the table, he probably only saw 50% of the flops.

I'm not complaning, just curious if this is normal.

Nothing like being in the BB with AA and having the whole table limp. Ah the joys of no fold'em hold'em.

I had a five-way cap preflop with AA this morning at Foxwoods $4/$8. (I was UTG+2, UTG raised, I reraised, one of the blinds capped.) Unfortunately the preflop capper hit running fours on the turn and river to beat me with 54s (EDIT: now that i think of it, he may have flopped bottom pair with his damn four), but no one wants to hear my bad beat story.

But yeah.... the difference in live low-limit poker and online low-limit poker is, in B&M more people are there just to have a good time and literally don't care how bad they're playing. More power to them.

From my limited B&M experience this is typical. Alot of live players just don't have any idea of correct play, and with the slower pace it requires more patience to play reasonably tight. Add alcohol to this mix and you can see how these 8-to -the-flop type games develop. Too bad you can't multitable live.

Yes it's normal.

I had Ace's hold up 8 ways, unimproved, capped preflop and the flop.

Ahhh... I love it.

where, and what were you playing? low limit($2/4 or $3/6) it sounds like.

Doesn't have to be super low limit to see behavior like this. I've seen plenty of 10-20 and even some 20-40 games in which 5 to 8 players take the flop typically. Gotta love it.
