Villain is 39/20/3. I don't remember if I was calling a 3bet.

It seems to me that whether or not you are calling a 3bet is crucial in evaluating your decision to only call the turn raise.

Either way, I prefer 3betting the turn to raising the river, but just calling the turn and then calling the river 3bet (unimproved) is giving up like .22BB, unless you know something in particular about this guy's turn versus river behavior.

Given 4 outs to a split + the chance of him having a J or a fd (non-negligible), I don't think this is a good spot to lure him in for 1 extra BB. Plus, he may well call down with a lot of hands you have crushed.

al, my feeling at athis time was this guy almost always checkraises the flop with an 8. Yes? No?

I like the river raise if you are disciplined enough to fold to a three bet.
