It's true. My best friend's cousin's sister-in-law lives in Grand Junction. One day in practice, Elway threw the ball as hard as he could to the west and it disappeared. The next day it broke my best friend's cousin's sister-in-laws windshield.

Here in Canada in our CFL (Canadian Football League) there was a quarterback challenge. I believe our ball is slightly bigger, but it was thrown 73 yards. Considering US has 10 times the population base, I'd imagine their strongest arms would outthrow the CFL QBs

There is a competition in the offseason that is a skills challenge for NFL QBs and it includes a throw for distance. I can't find it online, but I'm pretty sure that no one ever got to 80 yards.
There is no way that Elway, or any other QB could throw 100 yards in the air.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm almost positive I saw Favre throw it over 80 yards in the QB challenge.

[/ QUOTE ]

The quarterback challenge is not pure distance: there is an accuracy element in the long throw contest as well. Thus, not all the long throws qualify.

Ray Guy, the Raider's punter used to throw the ball from the 50 into the endzone. He was the team's emergency quarterback.

I am surprised more of you don't remember these the longest throws in that competition were around 80 yards. I remember Bledsoe back in the late 90s could throw the [censored] out of the ball, and he would throw it between 75-83. So I don't think Elway could throw it 100 unless it was some seriously positive coniditions, like wind and alt.

Side note: if you throw over 90 MPH in baseball you can throw the ball around 100 yards, on average.

I played QB in college and had an average arm. I could throw it a little over 60 during practice, so let's say 65 during games when adrenaline is pumping through me. I would say Elway was just under 70 in normal conditions

Elway throw a baseball from homeplate for a homerun over the wall

[/ QUOTE ]

I've done that. A few of the baseball players I know could as well.
