Online casino ad on U.S. TV
I saw an ad for River Belle online casino on television Sunday night. It appeared to be the real thing--recreational gambling for real money on their .com site. Several casino games including blackjack but no poker.
The station is the affiliate of the WB network in a major U.S. city. The commercial was broadcast during prime time network programming. |

Re: Online casino ad on U.S. TV
yes...there are a few stations out there who appear to be willing to air the REAL money dot-com ads.
It's up to the station really. If they think the chances of getting caught (or facing significant punishment) are minimal OR if they are just plain ignorant about the potential illegality of such ads then they will air them. What you might not realize is that all stations aren't completely aware of the whole situation like we might be. There has never been any law stating that they CAN'T run such ads. There were just a couple of situations a couple years ago where the DOJ said they didn't like it. But it's still not an official law per-se (as opposed to cigarettes....where every TV and radio station knows full well that they can't run such ads...this law was passed in 1973 I believE). You would be amazed at the number of TV executives and managers you could find who would have no idea about whether or not online-gambling is legal in the U.S. (or whether these online-casinos can even operate in the U.S.) If nobody is there to say "Hey...this might not be a good idea. I think there is some sort of risk involved with running these ads"....well, you can be damn sure that the people who want to pay to get these ads out there aren't exactly going to say, "Whew....glad you're running them. You guys are the first. We tried 100 other stations and they all turned us down." |
