20-40 preflop
Trying some online 20/40. Table playing at 30% VPIP, I'm a noobie and no reads.
We are 10 handed. I am in MP2 with A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] UTG open raises. UTG+1 cold calls. MP1 raises to $60. Hero ... ? folds/calls 3/caps? |

Re: 20-40 preflop
Seems like an easy fold. You are likely dominated, need hearts, or are drawing to your 3 A outs...not worth 3-bets cold or capping for an assumed 4 way pot where you may wind up HU against a hand that is already way ahead of you.
Fold and observe. |

Re: 20-40 preflop
Yeah I know it's "obvious"
I did fold. However, others came in behind me and there were 5 to the flop I think. If I knew there were going to be 6 in, ie including me, is it getting close to a call? The hand was won by a pair of tens, with 3 hearts on the board, which is why it bugged me. I know it doesn't count for the pf decision, but with the chance of making a (nut) flush by the river at 15-1 and loose guys playing (tho I didn't know which, the UTG+1 cold call was suspect) doesn't it start to become playable? What about AQs? |

Re: 20-40 preflop
how could you expect to get such a large amount of multiway action on a table full of 30VPIPs? with all those players in there for 3 bets you are going to be dominated twice most of the time at a tight table like this one.

Re: 20-40 preflop
If you are playing the game I think you are playing, its almost always frustrating. I gave up on trying to beat it.

Re: 20-40 preflop
It's the Paradise 20/40. It is usually tough (mid 20s VPIP and mediocre pots). Of late, though, it has loosened up a bit.
I understand the point about being dominated, it is likely there is one or more AQ or AK out there. My point was with people coming in after (maybe) loose bets, was I actually better off calling because not only do I have a reasonable stab at the pot anyway, if I come in, then more are likely to come in after me which improves my lookout with a hand that is probably dependent for +EV on multiway action. So it was really a call or fold decision, not a cap. If it got capped behind me, then I know I am maybe behind to Kings or Aces. Nobody has answered the AQs question either |
