I love the new Coldplay...but you've made fun of my past recommendations.

But while we're suggesting albums, if you don't own it, I'd suggest getting The Meadowlands by The Wrens.

[/ QUOTE ]

Very nice suggestion, have it already. BTW, the Wrens put on an insanely great live show. One of the best shows I've seen in the last few years.

Audioslave - I like this one. It's a solid effort with with some pretty good songs in addition to the high-quality performances you'd expect.
Beck - Haven't listened to this one in awhile. It's a pretty good effort. I really like the song "Broken Drum," it's one of the better new slow songs I've heard.
Coldplay - All the songs on this album have the same exact structure. None of the melodies are really all that catchy. Nowhere near A Rush of Blood to the Head, but that being said, I still like it.
Gorillaz - Cross between the first album and Mali Music. Nothing particularly outstanding here.
Weezer - This album is thoroughly mediocre. I'm pretty disappointed by it, especially considering the improvement from the Green Album to Maladroit.
White Stripes - Easily the best album on this list IMO. The single might be my least favorite song on the album. This one's got a good mix of sounds and solid songs. Buy this one for sure.

Also, I recommend System of a Down's latest. I'm not into really heavy music, but these guys have always had really interesting harmonies and good melodies here and there. This album is really interesting and is keeping me entertained.

A number of artists I really like have recently released albums. And I've heard great things about some new bands. So I'm going to Virgin this week to buy some CDs 'cuz they have a lot of them on sale right now. Yes, that's how I get my music, by buying CDs. No need to comment on that. However, any comments on the latest releases by these artists (which of these are essential purchases, which are disappointing) would be appreciated. I haven't bought CDs in a while, so if there are any CDs you think I should consider based on this list, feel free to suggest them too.

Audioslave-It's ok. I mean it's good, but I expect more.

White Stripes-Excellent.

I'd suggest Robert Plant & The Strange Sensation-Mighty Rearranger.

Also, an oldie, The Sonics-Here are the Sonics.

I have only heard of these ones:

Audioslave
Beck
Coldplay
Foo Fighters
Stephen Malkmus
Sleater Kinney
Weezer
White Stripes

[/ QUOTE ]

Lots of hype right now for Sleater Kinney and White Stripes. Sleater is featured in at least two magazines I have and White Stipes just did an interview on Fresh Air on NPR. Malkmus I only know because of your previous posts.

But, which albums are you asking us to rate? I'm pretty sure all of these bands have multiple albums, like, at least 3-4 albums each.

Edit: oh, latest releases. none of it is really my music, anyway, so I don't know why I even bothered posting. Sorry

In order (excluding the ones I haven't listened to):

Bloc Party
Arcade Fire
The Go! Team
Stephen Malkmus
Sleater Kinney
Beck

I can't stand that new Weezer song so I won't be getting the CD.

A new CD from the New Pornographers is slated for August, I believe.

What I would add that you should strongly consider is the 'Gimme Fiction' album by Spoon. I've been listening to that for pretty much the past week.

Good pick.

I totally understand why you feel that way, but it's pretty damn catchy.
