Default 2 Pair on the Bubble, Deep Stacks

Last night's $30+3R on Empire. 41 left, money starts at 30.

Villain in this hand has been very LAG and caught some cards to build his stack.

Seat 1: nautilus117 ( $5524 )
Seat 2: ccsea ( $20156 )
Seat 3: MainFish ( $45233 )
Seat 4: tipmontana ( $25564 )
Seat 7: Mise1 ( $12075 )
Seat 10: WSUbobcat ( $8825 )
Trny:16451743 Level:9
Blinds (200/400)
** Dealing down cards **
Dealt to WSUbobcat [ As 3h ]
MainFish folds.
tipmontana folds.
Mise1 folds.
WSUbobcat raises [900].
nautilus117 folds.
ccsea calls [500].
** Dealing Flop ** [ 3d, Jc, Ah ]

ok I raised on the button with ~22 BB in my stack. I was not suprised at all to see him call and expected him to be doing so with almost any 2. ok so I got a great flop...

ccsea checks.
WSUbobcat checks.

check behind here is pretty standard eh?

** Dealing Turn ** [ Qd ]
ccsea checks.
WSUbobcat bets [900].
ccsea calls [900].

so I bet 900 into a pot of 2000. Surprised to see a call here... I don't put him on an A... Q? J? flush draw?

** Dealing River ** [ Tc ]
ccsea bets [7025].

whoa whoa whoa... so he bet the exact amount to put me all in, which is about 2x the pot. I have over 17 BB behind if I fold here. Is he trying to bully me out of the pot or am I beat here?

WSUbobcat ????

Thoughts on flop/turn play and river decision?

Well, to warn you in advance, I disagree with your action on every street.

Especially because you (essentially) min-raised and gave him pot odds to call with any 2. Raise it to 1200, or fold. The worst thing you could do is to encourage a call with a weak hand like A3o.

Not for me. Why check against a LAG? Charge him to see another card. He might even check-raise, in which case you are very happy. If he folds, he had nothing anyway, and was unlikely to pay you off.

Why are you surprised? Once again, you gave him great odds to call.

You have no idea, because you played the earlier streets so weakly. So you have to guess. Hope you were right.

Check behind on the flop sucks, just calling on the turn sucks.

My guess is if you call he shows you K or better two pair... lay it down.

Well, i agree that your PF raise sucks. raising itself isn't that bad, but the amount is horrible. you're building a bigger pot with a not very good hand, and give yourself ZERO chance to take it down PF. after a limper, raising less than 4BB is usually bad IMO. limping would be fine too with this hand, but i probably prefer raising if he's really loose, meaning your Ahigh is almost certianly good.

however, after that, i don't think the check behind is THAT bad on the flop, provided that you play the turn MUCH differntly... bet BIG, and possibly even push if a scary looking card like that comes. they'll call you with all kinda of junk thinking you're on a steal. and also by checking you'll give the LAG a chance to bet into you as a bluff sometimes, and when he does, of course you push then, esp if the turn is bad at all, like this one.

so yeah, the river is probably close though, but likely a fold is correct, however you NEVER should have gotten yourself into a spot like that.
