Greatest Comedies of the last 30 years - Disqualified movies
There were a total of 143 movies listed in the nominations thread. I disqualified 30 movies, either for being made prior to 1975, or for being primarily a movie of a different genre.
Prior to 1975: Blazing Saddles Young Frankenstein Primarily Action/Adventure Movies: 48 Hours Beverly Hills Cop Ghostbusters Midnight Run The Cannonball Run Pee Wee's Big Adventure Animated kids movies (the animated movies allowed are really not meant for kids) Aladdin Monsters Inc. Shrek 2 The Incredibles Stand-up Comedy - doesn't belong in this poll Eddie Murphy: Delerious The following were a bit tough, as I find many of them quite funny. Still, they weren't primarly made as comedies. I realize The Big Lebowski probably belongs in this category, but it's such an awesome movie it slipped in. Fargo Pulp Fiction Dazed & Confused Good Morning Vietnam Scent of a Woman Sideways Snatch The Hudsucker Proxy The Royal Tennenbaums Club Dread Rocky Horror Picture Show Being John Malkovich Finally, I have a hard time thinking anyone in their right mind would consider these comedies. Needless to say, they won't be on the ballot. American Psycho Goodfellas Rainman A Clockwork Orange Shark Attack 3: Megallodon If anyone has a very convincing argument why these movies should be allowed in the poll now is your time to speak up. Otherwise I will post another thread with a qualifying poll for all the at-large bids (movies that don't qualify directly to the actual poll). Swede |

American Psycho is a hoot!
The scene where they're comparing business cards is one of the funniest scenes ever, in any film, and this scene alone qualifies it as a comedy. Having said that, there are other funny scenes (the two hookers, the axe business done to the sounds of Huey Lewis). It's a dark, dark comedy. What else could it be? (Unless you're a girl, in which case it's a horror film) |

Didn't really find the business card scene funny. Obviously the Phil Collins, Huey Lewis and Whitney Houston scenes are a laugh riot.

Didn't really find the business card scene funny. [/ QUOTE ] Watch it again, and watch Bateman's face the whole time. |

Re: Greatest Comedies of the last 30 years - Disqualified movies
I don't see how the quality of Lebowski exempts it from being DQ'd. It's precisely the type of movie we should not be including in the poll. It's so good on so many levels, but it's not a true comedy.
Eh, I guess The Cannonball Run is somewhat an action movie, but it's so absurd and the jokes are non-stop. But it wouldn't go far enough for me to argue this vehemently. Very thorough job. Well done. |

If Empire Strikes Back is an "action" movie, then 48 Hours, Beverly Hills Cop, and Ghostbusters are definitely comedies, IMHO.

Good work. I think Ghostbusters is a comedy though.

Re: Greatest Comedies of the last 30 years - Disqualified movies
I might disagree that Shrek 2 is strictly a kids movie, but other than that, you made some reasonable cuts. You've put a lot of work already into the action movies thread, and this one will probably be moreso. Good job. It'll be fun to see the results.

If we all put as much effort into our jobs as we put into these polls, we'd all be CEOs.
