i planned on playing at the borgata initially, i thought they were time charge though?

The Borgata 1/2 NL is $300 max buy-in, pot is raked 10% to a max of $4. With that said I'd play the 2/5 NL I think it is a much more profitable game.

How does the skill level at the Borg 2/5 compare to the 1/2 there? Is it more or less the same player pool? Or do higher-level players slum it at the 2/5 while waiting for higher games? This was the feeling I got at the Trop 2/5 -- I felt like I was in over my head (I am usually profitable at the 1/2 NL level).

Just to provide the answer in one post...

Taj, Trop, and Borgata all spread 1-2NL 300max with a $4 max rake and they are the biggest and most popular rooms (Borgata is always mobbed)

But other places have 1-2, namely Caesar's (same format), Bally's which is a smoking room and also has 1-3 and I heard seats eleven to a table (no, I don't know why to either), also Harrah's which has a tiny room and the max buy-in is $200.

I have never heard of a time charge in AC at NL below the 2-5 level. Also, while 1-2 is often the fishiest, I think the 2-5, particularly at Borgata can be very loose and profitable. They often spread bigger NL games there (5-10,10-25) so I do not think you have to worry too much about running into sharks.

I don't know of any time charge 1/2NL games in AC. The Tropicana 2/5NL game is raked.

I was at The Borgata over the weekend and they were spreading NL - 1/2, 2/5, 5/10 and 10/20. 1/2 Obviously had the largest wait list followed by 2/5 which was usually around half of whatever the 1/2 list was. I only played 1/2 for about 45 minutes while waiting for a 2/5 seat to open up so I can't say a lot about the game. However I would say that it is rare for the higher NL players to sit in the lower games because the wait is shorter for the higher games.

Either way the 2/5 is still a good game, you'll see a lot of bad play and some tough beats. If you play a good game you should be able to do well at the 2/5.

Also try the "House of Blues" poker room in Showboat, which I think is also owned by Harrahs. I think the rake is also $4 max. That's a very passive game with a lot of loose soft players.

The 2-5 games at Borgata are considerably more aggressive than the 1-2 games... though in the end they may be just as profitable or perhaps more profitable as a result of some of the stupid agresssion you'll see. Guys waiting for 5-10NL or 10-25NL will often sit in the 2-5 while they're waiting, since 2-5 tends to have the shortest lists on Fridays/Saturdays. Another thing I've observed in the 2-5: deeper stacks than 1-2. At a Borgata 1-2 table, you'll have one, two, maaaaybe three stacks of 2.5x the max buy-in or more, and you seldom see someone sitting with $1K in front of them. OTOH, in the 2-5 I've seen a much higher percentage of players sitting with 2.5x the buy-in, and a higher % of players sitting with ~2K.
