Default $6 rebuy Boat on river - Your line?

Hi all,

This is a hand that I would like some feedback on if possible. This is my first hand at the table, no real reads yet.

Preflop: I limped for set value, obviously. I think the position was a bit early for a limp, but so far the tourney in general has'nt been too aggressive.

Flop: I just called the bet in hopes of getting overcalls or a raiser behind me.

Turn: I chose this time to raise.

River: Ace. I do not want to play this weak tight. Obviously the most likely holding of villian is AK-Axs. I called the bet on the river instead of raising in case he boated. Is this too weak tight?

Comments on all streets appreciated.

Thanks a ton!

No, seriously, I repop it to either 3000, 4500, or push.

You can't put him specifically on AT without a ridiculous read; if he boated he boated. You should probably be pushing here. Your position is fine for a limp. I make this limp 90% of the time under these conditions; the hijack is only 2 seats from the button remember so you have good position.

Steve

EDIT: he could have A3 also but theres not much way to tell. I double up or lose it all on this hand, you only have so much time to accumulate chips. Anyone with an ace is giving you all their money here.

If he has a higher boat, then congrats to him. I'm pushing here everytime.

Awesome, thanks guys. I'll start pushing this when I have this situation again. I think he would have called. Villian had AJ .

I made it to the final table in this tourney!! WOoo hooo. Still playing it though.

Why did you not raise the flop? There is an ace on board. Try to win big pots with big hands. In a $6 tournament there is basically 0 chance you don't stack this guy if you play this hand fast.

I guess because I thought AT A3 etc would have me knocked out. I wasn't trying to play scared, but there was a lot of game left to apply more edges. I think this is one of the reasons I have been making a good amount of final tables. Getting my money in, but avoiding traps as well.

Perhaps I have the wrong idea. I shouldn't fear the boat and just get my money in.

Do I sound totally bass ackwards?

Thanks,
PN

You misunderstood my question. I asked why you didn't raise the FLOP. There's a good chance if you raise the flop, you are going to get it all in by the turn (in this case he would be drawing dead, if he had AT, he would have 4 outs, if he had A3 he would have 2 outs). This is what you want. When you flop a set, you should rejoice if there is an ace on board. Especially in low buy in tournaments, where people just can't fold top pair ever, you have a huge stacking opportunity (and also almost without risk).

Right on. I put in a big bet on the flop and pushed the turn. I wasn't really sure that a flop push would get more of his money in.

Like I said, the pooosh was the right thing to do even though he rivered a bigger boat.
