Default Am I a pussy or just being smart?

This is about bankroll and stakes. I've been playing 100 NL for probably about 5 months now, starting way back what I remember to be... about 2,000 I believe. I am now up to 16,000. I have not yet up'd the stakes and feel like ive just been costing myself money by not doing it. I just do not feel comftorable playing for more than 100 NL since this is like where my home has been on PP for so long. I've probably logged over 100k hands there. Is it time for me to man the f*ck up and go up? If so, where should i be playing at with $16,000. I'd have 40 full buyins for $400 NL but is that really a good idea? Should I just 1 table it for a while to get used to it? Any advice? Also, please post what stakes you were playing at my bankroll... or if you actually have less than me and are playing higher stakes. 4 tabling the 100 NL just feels like my bread and butter

why not try 3-tabling at the $100 and use the 4th table as your first foray into $400? Or some other similar plan?

no need to play at limits you're not comfortable at, but you should take ocassional stabs at higher games until you are comfortable playing them.

I think 16k is enough to play the 400's. You'll just have to get used to much larger swings. A 1200$ swing is 3 buy-ins in the 400's but 12 in the 100's. Swings that seem huge compared to what you're used to are really nothing in the bigger games.

If you start off badly in the 400's (stuck like 2 grand) it might hurt your confidence and make you think "what am I doing?". There seems to be a lot of 200$ games now, so maybe that is the next place you should go. That way you have virtually zero risk of ruin. Really, even with the 400's you have a small ROR as long as you don't go nuts.

Anyway, I am like you- I've had the bankroll for the 1000's for a little while but am content to keep slowly building in the 4's until I get enough so that a bad run in the bigger games will have zero effect on my mindset. For me I need a huge bankroll much greater than what is needed to get that piece of mind.

Good Luck

Great screenname.

It really is a jopke that you haven't moved up yet! Sure, it might be scary, but at the end of the day you're giving up a ton of money.

Move up and play 2 tables of 200 for 2 weeks, then 4 tables of 200 for 2 weeks, then 2 tables of 400 for 2 weeks, and then 4 tables of 400. At 16K I was playing NL 200, but that was because PP's biggest game was 200, back in the day.

This sounds like good advice to me.

You really are giving up a lot of value by not moving up.

For comparison. I play the $200 with $2000-$3000. So while you're a pussy, I'm an idiot with terrible BR management skills .

I like the idea of playing one table of the $200-$400 and several tables of the $100. It will help you ease into the limits gradually. Once you start playing them more often, it will be cake.

I have terrible BR too. I play $100, $200 and $400 NL, but my BR is only 5k. :P I've never had bigger downswing than $2000 in NL $400.
