Default At what point do you call a riv bet HU w. A high?

Lately I have been calling down w. A high in giant pots quite often. Some hands I win, but more often I lose. My rule is usually that if I am getting 10:1 on my call I will do it. Is that too low? Should I increase it to 12:1? 15:1? I don't know if this current play is making or losing money for me. Anybody have some feedback? Thanks

It's entirely read-dependant. Against some opponents I'll call with A high every time. Against others I'll fold without a second thought even if the pot is laying me 20:1. Against unknowns, I generally follow the same 10:1 guideline, assuming I have a good kicker.

Where the big leak often comes in is when you're calling too many turn bets or raises with A high. In most pots and against most opponents, you can give up your A high hand on the turn if they show aggression.

if you check to them on the river and they bet a card that doesn't figure to complete their hand AND they are they are the type of player that doesn't value bet very much, then be more inclined to call.

If they bluff a lot, be more inclined to call. If the pot is large, be more inclined to call. If the pot started heads up, be more inclined to call. If the board is paired, be more inclined to call.
I'm trying to call more often with A high myself too. Routinely throwing it away isn't as big of a leak as routinely calling with it, but its still a leak.

Weird paradox:
The bigger the pot, the more correct it is to call with A-high mathematically. However, the bigger the pot, the worse the chances are that A-high wins because people are obviously interested in their hands.

There's a balance point somewhere, just not sure where it is. I almost never call down with A-high in fullring games. It happens a bit more often in 6-max.

fryguy makes a good point about how as the pot gets bigger there is a smaller chance A high is good. I tend to call the river with A-high hands more in smaller, HU pots. But, like Harv said this is entirely read based.

When you make a call like that aren't you kind of afraid of the BB calling with something like middle pair? If the guy is loose you don;t really want to invite overcalls.
