Dell No Longer Offers WUXGA on the 9200
You no longer have the option of choosing it in the customize screen. Chat with live assistant confirmed it's no longer offered. He said he "thought" they were coming out with a new model but had no details.

I understand that everyone around here likes to view 4 tables with no overlap, but isn't that really small on a laptop screen (I think the 9200 is 17inch)? I was thinking that the trade off of having no overlap might not be worth the eye-strain from looking at very tiny tables. Does anyone around here prefer to play with a little overlap on their laptop so that the tables are a little bigger? |

Re: Dell No Longer Offers WUXGA on the 9200
Well, the 9200 has a 17" screen, so it's not really that small. I'm using that exact model right now and it's not that difficult. Now for those using WUXGA on the 15.4" screen, that may be a little straining, but definately worth it in terms of avoiding overlap

Re: Dell No Longer Offers WUXGA on the 9200
Yes, this is due to there being I think 2 different panels available for the 9200. One was a lot better, and thus the 9200's using the other screen were often returned. The Inspiron 9300 has already been spec'd and should be available shortly. It will have the WUXGA screen. In the meantime, a fine but expensive alternative to the 9200 is the Sony A-series. These currently have the best display on the market. My suggestion is, if you can't wait for the Dell, to purchase one of the Sony's with minimal options and upgrade it yourself using cheaper and better parts. I may go this route anyway, given that the screen is truly a work of art.

Re: Dell No Longer Offers WUXGA on the 9200
Thanks for the tip. They actually aren't that expensive. Any way to get a discount like the Dell coupons?

Nah, Sony is a bunch of elitist jagoffs. The best "deal" you are gonna find is a special financing promotion.

Re: Dell No Longer Offers WUXGA on the 9200
Hey Cruisers, 4 tables on a 17" CRT monitor would be very small because the "viewable" size is normally 16" or even close to 15". A 17" laptop screen will actually appear closer in size to 19" CRT because almost all of the LCD is viewable.

Re: Dell No Longer Offers WUXGA on the 9200
My laptop is 15.4" with 1400x1050.
I'm assuming the size of the tables would be roughly the same as 17" at 1600x1200. What I have isn't really that small imo. In fact, I think 1600x1200 on my 15.4" would be fine. Maybe my eye-sight is better than others though. But the tables on my CRT definitely aren't as big as I would like them to be. |
