Default 77 UTG, flopped bottom set - what\'s your plan?

UTG+1 posts blind UTG+1. End of first orbit with no specific reads, but 36 hands with Button shows VPIP 72.2, AF .47.

UTG, Hero is dealt 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

PRE-FLOP
Hero raises, Poster folds, 1 fold, MP2 calls, 2 folds, Button calls, SB calls, BB folds.
[10.0sb]

Q: Does the presence of the poster make this a good raise? I find posters like to complete 1 bet but does this give drawing hands sufficient odds to come in suspecting a blind or two might complete?

FLOP 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (4 players)
SB checks, Hero...

The extra sb isnt worth the UTG raise with 77

I hope hero bets flop...

The poster would make me less likely to raise 77 UTG. Ideally you want to play this hand in a multi-way pot or short-handed. With two blinds, your odds of playing it short-handed have decreased so I'd just limp.

Since you raised preflop, you should definitely bet out here and pray for a raise. If you hadn't raised preflop, and no one else did either, you should bet.

Slowplay, because the 2 hearts on the board make it cooler when you lose to a flush.

I find a poster often makes looser pf calls which makes me want to raise this 7 even less; I'd prefer to see a large multiway pot as it will be difficult to win this heads up against 3 or 4 opponents.

Since there are no other pf raisers, you can't predict a flop bet enough to try a c/r here. Lead out and hope for a 3bet chance.

I hope you find yourself doing that.

Yeah... it felt peculiar when I did it but I'll raise UTG without a poster following me because I do get it short-handed most of the time, (UTG - I'm VPIP 9.43, PFR 3.77, 50% WSD so I fear I'm not playing enough hands here). In MP/LP, I expect to play it multiway, so I'm often limping this.

As it went down, I think the raise succeeded but it made this particular post-flop play more difficult for me.

I always click the 'wait to post in BB' button so I can monitor a few hands before posting.

But on a serious note since you're already in for one SB you do need to loosen up, and realize that others will as well, making short handed pots more difficult to achieve. This hurts some marginal TP type hands but lets you limp weaker mutliway hands as well.

Limp. You want as many people in the pot as possible.
