Doyle Bruson on PSI interesting hand

I figure with the WPT posts on here and their acceptance I'd post an interesting hand I saw on PSI. The content of replies here is significantly better than any other relevant forums, which is why I posted it here, but let me know if this is not good. both players have around 130k

Brunson is Q9cc and limps for 2k.
Ivey completes in SB with 83o
Lederer checks BB with 63o

Flop: 76Jmonotoneclubs
3 checks

Turn: 2s
Lederer bets 3k
Doyle calls
Ivey folds

River: 8d
Lederer checks, Doyle bets 25k (2x pot)

can someone explain what doyle is thinking here betting 2x the pot on the river?

he is trying to represent the naked ace of clubs.

You mean why didn't he bet less? A value bet that might get called?

Maybe over betting the pot might look suspicious, looking like a bluff, and might get him a call.

Also, I think at this skill level what happens is this - that situation will come up over and over, sometimes he bets small, sometimes medium, sometimes large.

On TV you only get to see that one occurrence. You can't get a feel for the overall play of the game. Why he bet it big this time may be because of how he had just played several previous hands that you did not see.

his bet means either a stone bluff or the virtual nuts. lederer knows doyle knows lederer does not have a huge hand. might as well allow lederer to make a larger bad decision.

a more precise answer has to do with their collective psychology at that point in time, which we cannot know. doyle would not play that hand the same way every time, though he would often overbet there.

It may have to do with what he thinks his image is at that moment. Image is not a constant, it changes with the flow of the game.

For example:

1) If he had just won several pots in a row, and it might look like he is speeding around in a faster gear, now might be a good time to make an over sized bet.

2) If he just lost a big pot or took a bad beat, and it might look like he is steaming just a little, it might be a good time for a bet big.

3) If Howard has won the last several pots without a showdown, and it might look like Doyle is just a little hot, good time to bet big.

4) If he just had an argument with Howard in the men's room, and he thought that Howard thought that he was still pissed, good time for a big bet.

and so on...

stroke: i dont think the word "tilt", "steam", "revenge", or "ego" are thought of when facing a bet from doyle brunson.
