Default Napster or iTunes or other for gift?

My girlfriend wanted to get a digital music service to make some new cds. I used napster back before the huge legal issues, but haven't used a digital music service in a few years. So I'm looking for advice which is better Napster, iTunes, or something else.
Also, I don't know what the "rules" are with these sites, so it would have to be something where she could burn songs to cd.

thanks

Why are you planning on paying for music? Get her one of the million free user-to-user things, explain to her that she should click the music radio button unless she wants tons of porn, and take her out to dinner with the money you saved.

If you're really concerned about legality, I've heard Napster's new paying system sucks and that they make it really hard for you to transfer the music. I have a few friends who pay for music on iTunes and love it. This is second-hand information, though, and I really think you should just get the music for free.

If u want to download...

I use Limewire...no problems and then store them on Itunes...

I loaded up Itunes with my entire cd collection and now have ~4500 songs on it...I also have about 2000ish songs downloaded...

I used Audiogalaxy before it went bad...then kazaa+....Limewire does me just fine....and I only download music not porn (Well most of the time)...

If u are worreid about the legal implications - then itunes is fine for downloading music but not too sure how big the database is...

Easy answer - www.allofmp3.com It's a Russian based service with a massive collection of music available for download in various formats for only $0.02 per MB. That amounts to $1-$2 for an entire album. And it's legal in Russia, where all the servers are based.

I second allofmp3.com. I used Napster (girlfriend got a discount on service through Vandy) for about 3 months, before they fixed the easy DRM crack I found. Not only is burning CDs a huge pain in the ass, but albums aren't complete a good portion of the time. For example, at least one Blind Melon album was missing a track in the listing; ditto for one Opeth album. That's really aggravating.

allofmp3.com has been great in the month or so I've used it. No problems with online payment, the explorer program you can use (optionally) to download hasn't resulted in any spyware or performance issues, and its flexible as hell about the formats you can use when downloading. In addition, its selection is surprisingly complete. They even have those compilation CDs you see on TV late at night. All of these advantages at 15% of the price of Napster makes it a no-brainer.

wow allofmp3.com is still around, i must have used that 2-3years ago and at the time the selection was very limited and I thought great idea but I'm sure it'll be closed down before a month.

If you don't want to go that route, I would go with iTunes.
