new 20/40 game
What is the typical rake/time for a $20/40 game in a cardroom, casino or private game?
I stopped playing live fulltime over a year ago. I wasnt playing so much and when i started fulltime again i played online for its convenience. But I miss playing in real life so i do occasionally, but its just so expensive with the rake and tips and there aren't many limit games. To my surprize, I recently found out about a new cardroom near my house that offers 20/40 near my house. My main holdup is that it has a $10 rake and I think $5 tips are expected for big pots, etc. One of my favorite games I used to play at weekly was a 20/40 game with a $5 rake and occasional $5 tips which was a great deal. But it makes it hard for me to justify paying a $10 rake now and I dont think they'll offer me rakeback |

Re: new 20/40 game
You mean a $10 time charge? That sounds high. Time charge for 20-40 in AC is 7 per half. In many other jurisdictions, 20-40 is raked. Also...$5 tips (on an every pot basis) are retarded; once in a great while is ok. Tip $1 on any decent pot, $2 on huge ones. The dealers will still make a good wage as long as you're not a stiff.

Re: new 20/40 game
I was hoping to get more post examples (bigger sample, etc) but what i've heard so far is what i exocted i guess. I'm curious though. Is it possible for this game to be profitable, i'm told its very loose. Anyone with experience dealing with this much rake at 20/40?

Re: new 20/40 game
I still don't understand if it's a 10 dollar rake per hand or a 10 dollar time charge. I'd advise against the 10 dollar rake as it seems unlikely the opponents will be bad enough to compensate for the juice.

Re: new 20/40 game
Stay away from a $10 rake.
Also, I'm a dealer and even I think $5 tips are way above the norm. $1 a hand is standard and if you feel generous, more is always appreciated. |

Re: new 20/40 game
Hi River,
The Mirage $20-40 I sometimes play in, has a $4 max rake per pot and red birds ($5) are not that common of a tip. Mostly a buck (or two) there and throw in some local grumpy old lady stiffs into the mix. I might throw one of the better dealer's a red bird or two if I'm feeling really happy that day (or maybe not, mood dependent) but then again, I'm a Muppet. Best Wishes Howard |
