The new rules are:

WPT™ PLAYER SPONSORSHIP RULES*
August 23, 2005
Commencing at the Borgata Poker Open in September 2005, the World Poker Tour® will allow Players to wear one (1) pre-approved sponsorship logo at the WPT Final Table that complies with the rules of the WPT and the Travel Channel and is approved by the Host Casino. WPT reserves the right to refuse entry of any Player to the Final Table who does not comply with all of the following WPT and Travel Channel sponsorship rules. Please note that the following list of rules is only a partial list, and WPT will update this web page with a completed list of rules soon.

Sponsorship Rules for Players:

Players may wear one (1) breast pocket logo – no larger than six (6) square inches (e.g., 2”x 3”, 3”x2”, 1”x6”, 6”x1”).

No other logos will be allowed anywhere on Player.

No more than two (2) Players at a WPT Final Table may wear logos from any single entity. This may include multiple brands controlled by the same company or individuals.

If more than two (2) Players sponsored by an entity make it to a WPT Final Table, the WPT will high card to decide which players get to wear the logo. At this time, no sponsorship substitutions will be allowed.

How to Become a Sponsor:

Sponsor must be pre-approved by WPT, Travel Channel and the Host Casino. Please come back to this page for more details on how to become a pre-approved Sponsor.
Because of Travel Channel policy, no logos representing illegal activity of any kind, pornography, firearms, tobacco, personal hygiene, sexual aids, or hard liquor will be allowed. In the event Sponsor is a website, such site is prohibited from accepting wages currently or in the future and containing links or references to online gambling or any online gambling websites which accept wages currently or in the future in order to be pre-approved by WPT. WPT Enterprises, Inc., Travel Channel, and the Hosting Member Casino reserve the right to restrict logo wear for any reason whatsoever at their sole discretion.

Does this mean no OnlinePokerSite.net hats? Also, it mentions hard liquor, so I'm assuming beer is a go. But the rules seem to dash my hopes of wearing a big marijuana leaf when I make a WPT FT.

this is massive news, now if they could fix the structures so that more play happens at the final table instead of it turning into a crapshoot late in the tourny

This is going to allow the WPT to compete for big name (sponsored) players against WSOP curcuit events that have conflicting schedules. Players have been complaining about this from day one, so I am glad the Travel Channel is going to allow logos now.

You think the WPT is going to approve sponsors for free? It sure looks like the WPT saw it was going to be a little light in the revenue department the next couple of quarters and decided accepting logos was a good idea. Regarding .net sites, I'm sure if any .net site has gambling references on it, they'll be gone ASAP. Why hard liquor isn't allowed to be a sponsor is strange, as TV networks take ads, and other sports organizations have hard liquor sponsorships (even NASCAR).
