Default Vegas things that had me wondering

Recently I was in Vegas for 12 days. I had a lot of fun and got to play a lot of poker. But I have two questions.

1. Why is it so cold in the casinos. I come from a country where you have to heat most of the year and if I visited someone with such low temperatures in his room I would say he was saving a lot of oil. It seems that you can know the seasoned players, because they all have more clothes than a t-shirt.

2. Why are they playing with so many chips. I played the Mirage 20-40, Bellagio 15-30 and Bellagio 30-60. I can see the reasoning for 5 dollar chips in the 15-30 and ten dollar chips in 30-60 games but why not play 10 dollar chips in the 20-40. I got some heat because of my slow chip-handling.

It is cold inside of casinos in Vegas because it is farking hot in Vegas.

Lots of chips make pots look bigger and get more GAMBOOLERS.

Cooler temperatures make you less prone to getting tired, and they want to keep you there.

The inside of the casinos themselves are acutally warm, it's just the cold heartless gamblers at the table that cool things down....lol

Physical pot size. The 10/20 is played with $5 chips, so it's a 2/4 chip game. That's pretty common in LV - except for the 15/30 which is played with $5 chips.

In California, in the bay area where I have played, 6/12 is played with $2 chips and 9/18 is played with $3 chips. That seemed pretty weird to me.

In any event, it's about building bigger looking pots.

Regards,

T

Yeah. I think I read somewhere that the more chips used, the more action there is. So according to this theory, a 4-5 game would be livelier than a 5-10 game because there are a lot more chips in play.

Or I may have made that up. Not sure which.

The cheques are like that for convienience.
one stack of 20*$5 = $100
one stack of 20*$25 = $500
one rack of 100*$5 = $500 = 5*$100 = 20*$25 = 1 pretty purple chip
I don't think I've ever seen a "real" $10 chip. I have only owned dimes ($1k) once, when I used to play blackjack.

Re: chips, I'm going along w/ the others here, big looking pots.

At Canterbury they play the 4/8 with $1 chips. There are some big looking pots there.

Actually, if you watched any 20/40 or above games at the Bellagio, they do use $10 and $20 chips to speed things up. The mirage does not as they dont normally run higher than 80/160. I believe you can use green and red (25 and 5) on those games though.

Yeah, I played in that game a few weeks ago. I rolled-up with a rack of yellow ($2) chips and the dealer made me get the $1 chips to play.
