alright, then, i'll play your game. Since I am broke and suck and that's more important than the underlying question i'm trying to ask, we can examine alllll the question with nonnnne of the me:

If someone is a proven long-term winning poker player, it is mutually helpful for them to get an investor? What would be the conditions that would best benefit both benefactors?

Get the bankroll boost, after a certain time give it back with interest, perhaps double even. Say when you reach 2k from 500, give back 1k. There... you've reached certain profitable games with nothing and your investor got an amazing return on his investment. I don't think 25% of profit is a good idea in long term. What if you become a high roller? Think how much you'll lose

Your post made me think of everything I've given up over the past year to play this game, buy books, enter tournaments, etc. I'm starting to build up a bankroll but there was price to pay to get this far. It doesn't sound to me like you are willing to give up anything. You remind me of a friend at our casino who wants to be a professional poker player. He's pretty good and wins often but he has no discipline and, as a result, no bankroll. You're lucky to have someone who wants to invest in you but are you sure you can hang on to the money you plan to win so you can pay him back? Why don't you try skipping a few dates, invest some of your own money the way the other posters have suggested and see if you can get this to work on a smaller scale first?

Unlike my friends, I'm not a saucy little richboy and don't get BRed by my mommy.

Do your friends have any cute sisters? Or maybe their mommy is single?

Seriously, if this is a friend we are talking about, I would say don't do it unless your friend is rich and really truly doesn't care about money, it will come back to haunt you one way or another.

If it was an acquintance it would be different, but a friend, I would say no. Do the bonus whoring. If you are a proven winner, you can do at least as much as me (I make $100 a day bonus whoring and I am a noob!)

A proven long-term winning poker player wouldn't need an investor. Certainly not for $500.

The thing you seem to be unable to grasp is that bankroll management is one of the most critical poker skills there is.

This is a bad deal for your friend if you are going to play anything higher than 1-2 limit, or 25NL, or 20+2 SNGs.

I agree that if it is truely a friend don't do it. Money will come between you one way or another.

I'd like to hear more about the bonuswhoring I know what it means, but am not taking full advantage. Any suggestions, or links to posts about it, for another noob would be appreciated.
