Should there be a max buy-in for a "friendly" .10/.20 game?

Should there be a max buy-in amount for a .10/.20 home game?
Our usual buy-in is for $10.

A friend of mine is of the opinion that if he is down $30 to $50, (3 to 5 buy-ins) he should be able to re-buy for that amount so he won't be short-stacked.

I disagree and am of the belief that there should be a limit to the buy-in amount especially for a .10/.20 "friendly" home game where the initial buy-in is for $10.

Any thoughts?

That depends how friendly everyone will be after they drop $200 on one night of .10/.20

That's kind of my argument.

First of all, if I have accumulated chips from playing a pretty solid game and have built my stack to $30-40 in a short-handed game, or $50-$80 in a full game (remember, this is .10/.20), why should I let a crap shooting player (i.e. loves the action and loves to beat the odds) come in for the same amount and eventually beat the odds and take my hard-earned stack from me?

PS this has happened before, hence the new rule.

Second, raising the buy-in to this amount, changes the texture of the game and makes it a more serious game, at least for me it does.

If this is a limit game it shouldn't really matter if he is short stacked.

make the max buyin 20. and who cares if you have 80 and he buy ins for 80, jsut more money to take

He said he's up to 30-40 SH at .1/.2? I don't see how this can be limit. And as you said, having 100BB vs 200BB in limit doesn't really change anything. Sounds like he doesn't want another big stack showing up once he's got the big stack. One way to handle this is to let him rebuy but have a spread limit at say $10 or $20, whatever you're friends deem reasonable.

And if it's really a friendly game you should do what your friends want more than what we say.

Because, while the variance is wide-swinging, you'll make a lot of money off of the gamblers.

Uncapped buy-in is the way to go. We play a .05/.10 NL and it is awesome when some people decide it would be fun to buy in for $300. We've had to designate coasters as European-style "plaques" to be able to give them enough chips.

I'm sorry, I didn't specify that this is No Limit.

I guess I concede. I just don't see the point of having a small stakes friendly game if the buy-ins are allowed to get so high.
