Default Verizon Broadband

I know jackshit about computers so Id appreciate any help I can get
I want to get wireless internet on my computer and have heard about Verizons Wireless Broadband Plan
It is 60 dollars a month if you have a cell phone with them which I dont
Has anybody this price without having their cell phone service?
I live in NYC- how fast will it be relative to a cable modem?
When Im not in the broadband area how slow is it?
Do other companies have similar servies ( I switched to sprint for my cell phone service)
Thanks

The card is $99 and if you are a cell customer, the monthly cost is $60 (think its $80 otherwise)

In major metropolitan areas 400-700kbs with possible bursts to 2Mbs. In other areas, its more like an 14.4kbs with slightly higher bursts.

I just signed up for it last Wednesday since I was going out of town for a long weekend to visit in-laws who only have AOL dialup. I generally got the slower 14.4 speeds but it still worked great for 4-8 tabling. Worked for web browsing as well.

They have a 15-day trial period. You can return it in that time and just pay a prorated monthly usage charge.

I have my phone plan w/ sprint
and still got the $60 rate, it should not matter
the best thing (in my opinion) is you can keep a signal while going down the highway
