Default SLC - Update 2

SNG Ladder Challenge - Intro

SLC - Update 1

Ouch. Getting so close to my $1,000 goal before the Crash & Burn made this return to the mean extra painful.

At the $100 level & needing a win to get to $972, I managed to get HU with about 60% of the chips, but got badly outplayed. Unfortunately, although that 2nd left me with a healthy $772 SLC balance, a trend of overly LAGgy early play and 3 poor bubble plays led to some unneccessary exits and 2 rungs down to the $30 level.

This has defnitely been fun & educational for me though, if a bit frustrating.

A couple of obvious lessons learned 1st hand:

No surprise, but there are clearly fewer LAGs self-destructing and/or donating chips on draws in most of the $50s and $100s (as compared to $10-$30s). So inthe $50+ SNGs I've been fairly consistently a short-ish to medium stack by the time we're 4 5, or 6-handed, often at the $50-$100 or even the $100-$200 or $150$-$130 levels. Couple that with drastically improved bubble play from opponents (better than mine I'm fairly sure) & this has been a tough stretch.

Shocker- it's less fun to finish OTM in 7 SNGs in a row than finishing 1st in 4 of 6.

On an encouraging note, my very small sample of short-term results in the $10s-$30s have been solid, and the auto-drop down the ladder when I go below 5 buy-ins is keeping this experiment alive & kicking. A pre-determined structure is a nice anti-tilt measure- I tend to go UP in limits when I lose, so the SLC disarms my own self-destruction device.

No apology needed- I'm still plugging along, but at a slower pace. I didn't think anyone was at all curious how I was doing, but I'll post an update soon.

As far as concern on the 2nds, I'd leave interpretation up to the experts here, but I'd say there's no need for concern over for 2 reasons:
1) Too few ITM results to mean anything (even if they were 2 1sts, 5, 2nds, and 8 3rds I'd guess it would still not be statistically meaningful but I'm not sure)
2) You're ITM 50% of the time, and evenly spread bewteen 1st/2nd/3rd with 5 each. I'd say those would be results most would love to aspire to over their next 100 or 10,000 SNGs, since they'd result in an ROI of over 51%, but is probably too high to sustain.

Glad to see you're having some fun & success at this- definitely let me know how you do from here. I'd love to see someone rocket straight to the 1,000 bucks (but am expecting some company in the land of stuck at the $50s & $100s like me). BTW, I agree with bagging the $5+$1s- the 20% juice is a killer.

i started off with $100 at $10+1. up to $800 at $30+3 (quad-tabling). went down to $150! went down to $20+2 quad-tabling and slowly won back to $600. will probably stay at 20+2 till i have 25x buy-in for $30+3 (ie: $900).

why did you pick 5x buy-in to be magic # to move up/down?
and do you play single table or multitable?

Congrats! Not only on your nice win, but particularly for being smart enough (unlike me) to step back down once you got up past your comfort zone. If I reach $500 again, I may also drop back to the $10+$1s. Let me know how you make out in Round 2.

Actually, because I had tapped out (i.e., tilted) my Party account all the way down to $30 I was looking for a fun, structured way to take a cheap shot at rebuilding my roll without making another deposit.

Most everyone here that tries to ladder the SNGs does it with 20-50 buy-ins. I was just looking for a quick thrill ride ala Mike Haven, et al's original OIC (Open Internet Challenge). I like the 5x since you can usually pop up to the next level quick with 1 win or 2 2nds.

I've been mostly single-tabling (since you usually won't know what rung you should do next based on winning or losing 1 SNG). My results also seem better when I focus one just 1 or 2, but to each his own.

(BTW, nice results- hope you keep it up.)
