[/ QUOTE ] how do you know you're in the middle? maybe you're at the end... or the begining to be honest no, i've never seriously considered quitting... its prob because i don't stake enough of my BR at the game to make a downswing really make me sick... downswings just make me want to improve...

Turnaround
I normally play $200NL and $400NL - I ran my bankroll up to $8K and decided to take a shot at the higher ($1000NL) tables - (I know, I know - insufficient bankroll - but hey that's why they call it taking a shot, right?).
I lost $2K in 2 big hands so I stepped back down to the 200 and 400 tables where I proceeded to lose another $2700. This $2700 down swing was nightmarish. At 200 and 400 tables this equates to about 8-9 buy ins - horrid. So I'm down to may last $300 (not my actual last $300, but the last $300 I'm willing to lose before taking an extended break from the game) on a 600NL table and am playing HU with a bad player. I am playing hyper-aggro just bullying him - just as I bust him another guy sits down and we play HU. Same treatment for him. So I'm at $960 and I sit at a $1000PL table, I run up to a little over $1200 and this hand comes along. Well, I think that's what makes this game so fascinating and challenging is the winning and losing aspect. If it were truly that easy, then no one could be a long time winner, because the money has to come from somewhere, some fish; and the fish change all the time depending on what skill level you're at.
Someone playing 20/40, 30/60, limit is probably a fish to someone who regularly plays and wins 100/200 limit games. I know it's been mentioned before in this forum, but, the book, "Mastery," by George Leonard is a great book. If you haven't read it, I'd recommend reading, or re-reading it.

I logged onto this site today to, basically post this thread. I had an awful weekend down in AC and I wanted advice on downswings in the game. Seeing this thread already here has boosted my confidence enough to not quit the game all together. I'm just going to take a few weeks off, read this site more and hope I do something to help my karma out a bit.

The different pitfalls you may encounter, the different ways of thinking that people may have, and what it means to truly master something. A very wonderful book.
