Villain seems to be a loose player and is under the gun. He has $149.
He raises $4 to $6.

Two players fold.

I raise $14 to $20.

Small Blind and Big Blind Fold.

Villain calls.

Flop (All Diamonds)

A K 8

Villain bets 15 dollars, I raise 15 to 40. He re-raise me all in. I call

So you think it was played right? I've been agonizing over this hand as it was my last hand played at $1/2 NL, I've moved down and pushed my bankroll past it was before I lost this hand.

The interesting part was that the villain led out, it would be a much different story if the villain checked and then a $20 bet was placed on the flop from me.

Looks fine to me... I don't usually give credit for a flopped flush heads up... unless he's super weak and betting hard

With a $40 pot and $67 behind, I'm looking to get it all-in on the flop no matter what. In fact, I'm probably just pushing the flop no matter what. Either he has a pair and he'll call me or he has nothing and he won't. But it's pretty obvious if you bet $20 that the rest is going in on the turn. Maybe bet $20 if you think it will look weak and get him to come over the top. But I don't see most people in these games laying down any overpair to a flop push here. So if he has TT and the flop comes 267 I bet you get a call.

this part doesnt make any sense.

otherwise, getting it all in here is fine, given the short stacks. you have good redraws as well. you got 1/4 of your stack in preflop with AA, you can't really fold after that if you started the hand with 45 bbs.

So I should have stuck it all in on the flop? I wasn't sure how to play with top set but not the nuts, beings there were 3 diamonds out there.

He showed J (diamonds) 10 (hearts) for the winning straight by the way.

This is a disguised bad beat.

This hand has stayed with me for some time (actually 3 months). It was worse by this guy's victory celebration in which he proclaimed he outplayed me and told me to get a clue on how to play the game. I don't know what I could have done more besides push more on the flop. I thought a re-raise of 25 dollars would get him off his draw, which wasn't even to the best flush or his gut-shot straight draw. I can't lay down trip aces, in my opinion, because of the odds of one player calling a raise and flopping the straight with the A or K out there is so small.
