Default 7 card stud

On a recent trip to the Taj Mahal, 2 unusual
situations occurred. Both happened while I was playing $10-20, overall playing time was
approximately 20 hours, with breaks here and there. The table was usually full with 8 players, at times 5 to 7.

The first situation, a player on two consecutive hands was dealt 4 of a kind. Jacks then aces. What are the odds of this happening ?

Situation 2, I was dealt a straight flush, hearts, 9 to King. Several hours later, I had a Royal Flush, hearts also. What are the odds for getting a Royal, a straight flush, and then both hands together so soon ? I made each hand on the river.

Looking forward to some insight...Thanks.

Default Re: 7 card stud

You need to clarify:

[1a] What are the chances of me getting 4 of a kind on my very next two hands?

[1b] What are the chances of me getting 4 of a kind on the very next hand after getting 4 of a kind?

[1c] What are the chances I will ever see anybody get 4 of a kind twice in a row?

[2a] What are the chances of me getting two straight flushes in the same suit within the next hour?

[2b] What are the chances of me getting a 2nd straight flush within an hour of getting the first?

[2c] What are the chances of me getting 2 straight flushes within an hour of each other, ever in my life?

I really don't know exactly, but I'm sure that [1a] and [2a] are both negligably small, and [1c] and [2c] are both extremely likely.

Default Hello jdal! Post in \"Probability Section\" for an...

analysis by some mathematicians.
However, for the special case of obtaining quads twice consecutively, the probability(P)is
((4 4)/(52 4))exp(2)=P Hence, the odds against hitting quads twice in a row is (P-1) to 1.

happy pokering,
