Default Rakeback @ B&M - Finally!!

The owner of the local cardroom in town e-mailed me and wondered why I don't come in as often as I used to. Its a small room that spreads only 3/6 and 4/8. He suspects I play almost exclusively online and he's right.

I wrote back quite a lengthy and well thought out response basically showing how much it costs a recreational player like myself to play live small stakes. Its darn near impossible to beat the rake at 3/6.

I suggested a rakeback program whereby he pays 25% of the rake back to medium/high volume players. There is still the stupid jackpot drop and of course dealer tokes, but a reduced rake might get me to play more locally. I like the place and its an hour drive to the Bay area to play 6/12 or 8/16 which I'm not totally BRed for, so online SNGs it is.

He e-mailed me back this morning offering to pay back at the rate of $3.75 an hour. w00t!! I like it. It's not perfect, but it sure does help reduce the burden at 3/6 and 4/8.

Now, instead of paying the house $12 an hour to play, it will average $8.25. That might just be enough to make 4/8 beatable.

Just thought I'd share that.

Be interesting to know if you're in on the ground floor of a trend about to be set. Just realized something - hell, you've started it! We may owe you a big thanks! (no money, just my unwavering gratitude )

I don't think this will become popular in most casinos. Vegas casinos would be stupid to offer rakeback as most of their clients wouldn't have a clue what the hell that is. Most high volume poker areas (Vegas, Cali, Atlantic City, etc.) would have that philosophy.

If most of your clients don't know what the hell it is, isn't that a good reason TO offer it? You get the benefit of marketing it to people who know what it is and the benefit of not giving it out to everybody and their brother automatically.

No, my point is that they don't need to offer a supply when there is already enough demand. They won't get extra tables going by offering rakeback. They will only lose money to the players who already play a lot and will take advantage of this offer.

Thanks for the elaboration. It actually isn't that much at most places.

At Wynn for example, I get $1.50 an hour if playing in the higher stakes games and $1 and hour for lower. When I use a comp and order a chicken ceaser salad or something, it is proper to tip the runner money for getting you the food so you are also paying for a little on your comps. Also, each comp they give is a set amount, so even if you spend less than $15 a Zoozoo for example, they take $15 dollars off.

Not like any of that matters anyway because the red card computer system at Wynn is completely effed up anyway. I think I have -$100 or something.
