Default Party 15-30 A9o

Another hand from my return to the online ring. This is a 10-handed table, currently short.

Party Poker 15/30 Hold'em (5 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] in CO.
UTG calls, Hero raises, Button calls, SB folds, BB calls, UTG calls.

Flop: (8.66 SB) 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (4 players)
BB bets, UTG folds, Hero calls, Button folds.

Turn: (5.33 BB) J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets, BB raises, Hero 3-bets, BB caps, Hero calls.

River: (13.33 BB) T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players)
BB bets, Hero raises

Especially w/ a card that goes so well with a nine on the river, when he leads after capping the turn, is that an auto-raise, close, or a call?

Results in white below:

, BB calls.

Final Pot: 17.33 BB

Hero shows As 9h (three of a kind, nines).
BB shows 9d 8c (three of a kind, nines).
Outcome: Hero wins 17.33 BB.

I probably just call. You're getting 3bet by a boat so you need to be pretty confident to raise here. I don't think that confidence is justified against a typical opponent.

It's an auto-raise. I'd assume I was ahead on the turn despite the action to this point. That means that the river card is unlikely to have changed things. Heck, some online players may 3-bet me with a worse hand. Raise.

wouldnt the turn check-raise cap scare u at all with the jack so close to the 9 at all?

If he 3-bet the river, would u cap it or call?

Call.

I'm not scared because in this situation online, my opponent is going to be real slow to put me on A9 and still has that warm feeling that he just snapped off a big overpair with his trips.

before i read the result, i'd like to say i most usually just call the river. only because he chose to check-raise and cap the turn. it feels something like a 9 at minimum, quite possibly a fullhouse.

now let me peek...

... OK, i wrong. you rule, diablo

Any option but raise and call a 3-bet is not optimum poker in this particular game and I'm pretty sure your LOOSE-AGGRESSIVE self knows that.

With your ace kicker, yes I think it's an auto-raise on the river.

On the flop the big blind was expecting and (in this case) hoping for a flop raise from you. Of course you're taking a chance that his bet-out was just exploratory, but if it was you aren't getting much more than a couple check-calls anyway, regardless of what you do on the flop. So I would have raised it there, too. The button's going to fold anyway, regardless of what you do.

I'm having problems with saying that raising is an easy decision.
From the way he played it, I can't put him on anything but trips or a boat. If you raise the river and catch him the time its just trips, then you gain 1 bb. If you raise and its the boat you lose 2bb. Against a strong opponent I have to lean toward just calling.
Maybe the party 15-30 game is looser than I'm guessing, but depending on the opponent I'd probly call about 50% and raise about 50%. So, to me its not a simple raise.

Another question on the flop play. I understand coldcalling, not wanting to push out the BB. However, Do you think raising to continue to represent an overpair would have any value? or would it kill the action to often to be a valuable play. With a raise on the flop the rest of the hand gets easier.
