Re: Dealing with losing money
I think it is healthy to have respect for money. It could be negative if you get scared of moving up when your game is ready. But seeing as you have made your way up the SnG ladder and play at a reasonably high limit I don't think it is a problem for you. Eventually you will feel comfortable enough to play the steps.

Re: Dealing with losing money
like curtains said. it wont hurt one bit running bad when you have a 300k roll to work with on those step 5s. lose 10k a day and you will be like, meh, get em back tomororw, no big. the hurt comes from the money having a direct impact on yer life, or a special meaning. money lost most of its meaning to me a while ago, which isnt a terrible thing for a poker player. just about the only thing you can do for now is increase yer bankroll. holla

since when did freemoney lose? [/ QUOTE ] Um, he didn't. But the crux of his post is that he's afraid of losing a large wad of cash. I figured that out when he said... [ QUOTE ] I think what holds me back is I am scared to play step 5s oon a regular basis because I dont wanna deal with losing 10 to 20k which will invaribly happen. [/ QUOTE ] He knows he will lose here and there. I just don't know how you get to high stakes without realizing it happens at every step. This is assuming proper BR management. It's all relative. Small stakes, small wad. Large stakes, large wad. What's your point? |

Re: Dealing with losing money
[ QUOTE ]
How do some of you higher stake players deal with losing money, like alot of it? I have a pretty nice sized bankroll, but I think what holds me back is I am scared to play step 5s oon a regular basis because I dont wanna deal with losing 10 to 20k which will invaribly happen. How do some of you deal with it, or does it always suck when it happens? I guess its all relative, that a year ago I would of had a breakdown if I lost 1500, now it would be off my mind 10 mins after losing computer screen. Im just looking for some help in how you guys progressed to these levels or deal with losing that much money. Thanks for any help [/ QUOTE ] it's all relative. Back in May, i had a 6week 650 game breakeven streak. i was feeling horrible. ulcers and quitting poker came to mind. right now, i'm -30 buyins in my last 450 games ($50+5) and not even an ounce of worry. the main point for me is experience and bankroll. i know i'm a winning player. (or that i'm a luckbox 10 months out of the year.) either way, i'm going to be winning again once this variance settles down. as for bankroll, i now start at 100 buyins. not much difference to me between 70 and 100 buyins. when i get down to 30 buyins, then i'll start to worry. |

Re: Dealing with losing money
and just like that.. a day after i posted my above msg, i won 30 buyins and am now breakeven.
at the lowest point in this breakeven streak, i was -50 buyins. back to op's question-> As long as you have the bankroll, and know you are a winning player at that level, don't worry about losing money. |
