[ QUOTE ] Bailey is 'quicker,' he has a faster acceleration...at 200m Johnson would have caught and passed him. [/ QUOTE ] So then you agree the 100m sprinter is faster. rJ [/ QUOTE ] No, what I'm arguing is that Johnson's top speed is faster, but Bailey is able to get to HIS top speed faster. I don't really know though, however, I'm pretty sure that they are both faster than me. |

Re: Greatest sportman/woman you ever saw perform live?
The reason the 'math' makes the 200m runner appear faster is because he spends a greater % of his time at or near top speed. The 100m sprinter spends more % of his race going from zero to top speed. But the faster runner is definitely the 100m sprinter.

Re: Greatest sportman/woman you ever saw perform live?
seems like the only way to define it is the highest reached speed by a human on foot. That's not really "fastest man" but it seems like the most sensible record to discuss.

Barry Bonds. [/ QUOTE ] Oh man. I forgot this one. It's my freshman year of college, so 2002 playoffs and the Braves are playing the Giants in the NLDS. We went to 2 of the games because it cost like $8, and why not? Anyway, I don't remember the game, or the score, but I know that Atlanta was up by a fair amount. It was the top of the ninth, Bonds is due up, and Smoltz came in to close it out. Now, because the game really isn't that close, he doesn't pitch around Bonds. Instead, he's throwing 98mph right at him. Well, needless to say, Barry gets around on one, and must've launched 480 feet before some piece of the stadium got in his way. It was amazing. |

Donald Arthur Mattingly.
Sure I went to a few Rangers games when #99 was playing for our declining team, but Wayne can't touch Donny Baseball. |

If your talking about Sportsman as in showing great sportsmanship id have to say Cal Ripken Jr. The man would spend an hour after every game to sign autographs for fans. Show me where that happens this day and age with the high priced pro athletes.

I played a round of golf with Jackie Robinson at the public course (Hubbard Heights back then) in Stamford, CT. We were both singles and the starter hooked us up.
