Default People setting way off the table?

I ran into a situation the last time I played at a local B&M, a guy just sat down with what looked like 3/4 of a rack of chips. We were playing 3-6 limit at this paticular table. His girlfriend was sitting behind him, which made me uncomfortable, but then he would lean way back in his seat, 2 or 3 feet back off the table, I know he could see my hole cards when I would take a peek at them. Is this something that happens often? And if so what can you do about it besides the obvious of shielding your cards with your body.

Are you not protecting your cards?

Yes I am, but when it gets to the point where I have to use my body because his girlfriend is behind me, and he is too, I just thinks its out of line. It wasn't just once, it was the whole time he sat there till he went broke.

i use my hands and normally my stack of chips to block view - it happens sometimes, that people may sit like they are trying to look - but i dont feel they usually are, and if it makes you feel that uncomfortable - metion it to them and if it persists say somethig to the dealer

i dont think it could really be a problem unless you are lifting your cards off of the table

You should be able to peek at your hole cards in a manner that no one else can see them--even if they were directly behind you, and making no effort to conceal their effort to spy.

Also, you should only look at your cards once, when you first get them. If you're picking them up more than once, you need to work on that.

I have the problem of looking back at my cards to. I will work on that next week when I get lots of vegas playing time in. I would be really obvious about concealing my cards and kind of stare him down. Actually, I would probably just say something to him knowing how I act.

I know how to conceal my cards for the last time. This isn't about how to conceal your hole cards, it's about someones girlfriend behind me looking, helping out her boyfriend. I just thought is was out of line setting way back off the table, that was my main concern.

Using your stack of chips does work well if you feel you need extra room to peek, unless you don't have a stack of chips. If thats the case you got other issues to work on.

You have a point there Jonny ...funny. Maybe I'll use my chips in a similar situation next time.
