Between the echo from an overseas call and that I live in Kansas (we dont come across a lot of English accents in Kansas) I could not make heads or tails of what he was saying.

[/ QUOTE ]

Damn those English people with their English language with their English accents! The nerve of them abusing our language like that!

[/ QUOTE ]

Dont worry I am stopping posting here regularly once this party thing is decided... hopefully tommorow.

[/ QUOTE ]

OK OK, I agree, those limeys have funny accents. They do it on purpose too. If you listen to an English band sing, theres no accents in the songs. Makes you wonder eh?

[/ QUOTE ]

I been posting like crazy but what can I say I am bored at night without poker, has nothing to do with your response. The only accent you hear in Kansas is the Missoura accent where if the word ends in an I it is pronounced as an A. Ok course us good Kansas folks would not be caught dead doing that.

A few voice-mail prompts later and I'm chatting with a cheerful Brit (I think.)

In much of the world English taught as a second language is *English*. Most any good language student who succeeds in eliminating his native accent will wind up sounding British.

Hmm maybe we were not talking to England then? I knew this was overseas as soon as I heard the ringer, it sounded like one of those old phones you put your finger in and turn to dial.

Please delete this post or at least delete the part where you explain to everyone how to acquire passwords and logins. (Your post is going to cause more harm than the original security flaw).

Security by obscurity is the worst kind. It is important to expose vulnerabilities otherwise they will never be fixed. Though it might be better to question the company directly why they didn't require more proof of identity before posting to a public board.

Just like in the states...some Brits have accents so thick they are difficult to understand....others are easy to understand.

I briefly dated a girl from England who had a very thick accent and I could barely understand a damn thing she said.

I live in Memphis...but am from the northern, mid-west and speak in such a fashion.
So I tend to stick out....and I frequently have trouble understanding the variety of accents around here.

similar to my uncle from northern Wisconsin who said that passing through Alabama one time he simply could NOT understand the person behind the counter at Wendy's and he was quite embarassed.

That isn't just you. When I lived in LA the peopel who spoke English as a second or third language were much easier to understand than a lot of the people from the south.

That explains it a bit I believe. The South Africn accent can be quite thick imo.

Randy, my GF's 2nd language is english and I have never had a problem understanding her.

Back in my BJ dealing days in Tunica, Miss I would just nod and smile a lot while my players yapped on to me about whatever it was I was incapable of understanding.

I remember one player from Arkansas who was talking about hunting for Turkeys or something the previous weekend...and, for the most part, I had absolutely no idea what the hell he was saying.
Again, I think this is a bit more my fault then theirs since I'm the one who isn't from around here.

It's unlikely you were talking to someone in the UK. No large Worldwide company in their right mind would use UK call centres, given the extremely high cost of labour, when compared to the majority of the rest of the World.

When I phone my bank, I speak to someone in India!
