SB in 6/12 played with $2 chips

What is the small blind in a 6/12 game played with $2 chips? Is it a $2 (1 chip), $3 (2 different denomination chips), or $4 (two chips) blind? I was talking to somebody in the 4/8 game at Foxwoods (also using $2 chips) about how a 6/12 would be better than the 5/10 kill they have now and he asked me what the blinds were. I honestly had no idea as I've only played 6/12 once in my life and that was at the Mirage with a mishmash of $5 and $1 chips that the dealer had to constantly make change for.

$3, dealer will make change if you throw 2 - $2 chips out there.

At Caesar's IN the blinds are $3-6 and the game is played with red and white chips.

In California, the blinds in this game are $2 and $6.

Same at Borgata in AC. Folks play with very little white on the table, and this slows the game with the constant change-making going on.

I played 6/12 with $2 chips on the PPM cruise last year (run by CardPlayer cruises) and I am pretty sure the blinds were $2 and $6.

There were some blue $1 chips around the table though as I recall (if the rake didn't make it to the max $4 usually....and for tips) so it COULD have been 3/6 blinds...but I don't think so.


There's not necessarily a STANDARD way to do it.
You can do the blinds in such a way that you prefer for your game.

For example, 3/6 typically has blinds of 1 and 3. But I've played on online sites where it's 1.50 and 3.
And I've played live where they only have a single $3 big-blind.


If a B&M wants to do 6/12 with $2 chips it's really up to them whether they want to do blinds of 2 and 6 or if they want 3 and 6.
I can't see the change being much of an issue for 3 and 6 as another poster observed.
You just put a couple $2 chips out there....and the dealer quickly flips a $1 chip back at you. Shouldn't be that big a deal.


FWIW - I really liked the 6/12 game with $2 chips.

I played 8/16 at Bellagio and Wynn.
Bellagio is all red and blue 5 and 1 chips and it was really annoying.
A raise to $16 could look like a bet of $8 because both had 4 chips (3 red and 1 blue vs. 1 red and 3 blue).
At the Wynn with the brown $2 chips the game seemed to go much smoother. I liked it with $2 chips significantly better.

I cant imagine it would be any different than a 2/4 spread with $2 chips. Just beacuse $2s are the standard doesnt mean that 1s arent part of the game. At the 2/4 at Foxwoods, everyone has stacks of yellows and maybe 2 or 3 whites. The dealer will chop them anytime... especially for tips. I'll usually get $10 or so at a time.

Thanks for the replies, all. I know its not difficult for any of the 3 setups I mentioned ($2, $3, or $4 blind) as making $1 of change is not a difficult proposition; I just wondered if there was a standard way of doing it. Its always seemed weird to me that 3/6 has a $1 small blind but 15/30 has a $10 small blind (I assume those are both standard? I've never seen them live any other way).

I don't believe any way is better than any other way; there are just adjustments that need to be made. I do, however, think that Foxwoods would be better off with a 6/12 game than the 5/10 kill (kill at a pot of $100, not a kill when someone wins two hands in a row) they currently spread. Most of my reasons for that have been discussed in other threads about whether or not 5/10 is a good format for live play.

Canterbury's 6/12 game is played with $2 chips and the blinds are 3/6. There are a handful of $1 chips in play for this reason and tokes / rake.

i played the bay101 6/12 the other day. the blinds are 2 and 6, or 1 and 3 chips.
