Default Re: How do you run a bad beat jackpot in a home game?

I've decided to make it any full house beat by a full house or better. Both players have to use both hole cards. I wonder if someone hits quads if their kicker counts as both cards. Ex. player is holding AJ and the board is JJJQK. Does that count or should he be holding JJ w/ JJQKA on the board?
I wonder which way I should go?
Thanks.

Nick

You make the best five card poker hand, which is JJJJAK. The kicker has been used in the hand so yes! Grant the jackpot. If the kicker doesn't come into play (say he was holding JT) then no.

I tried it once, but I doubt I'll do it again. When you've only got one table going, setting the qualifications can be tricky. One week, you'll have boat (or better) over boat three times, and the next week, you get nothing better than flush over straight.

To complicate matters, we sometimes play several different games over the course of the evening. Who gets the jackpot for the night? The trip tens losing to trip aces in five-stud, the deuces full losing to tens full in 5-draw, the eights full losing to jacks full in hold 'em, or the quad deuces falling to the baby straight flush in Omaha/8?
